We started our small family oriented backyard farming adventure over 15 years ago. We wanted to have our children involved with animal husbandry to further their homeschooling education. We teach hands on animal health with chickens, ducks, rabbits, 1 steer and our Border Collie dogs. We do sell our chicken and duck eggs along with our seasonal vegetables when we have a surplus from our garden.
We practice reasonable and healthy animal husbandry. We are not organic but we use the lest amount of spray or medicine when it is needed. We buy our feed at a local feed mill that uses grains from local area farmers. Our animals are given a well balanced feed and/or hay to maintain good health.
Our border collies are more pets than working dogs. They have a separate kennel but are close to our steer and chickens so they are used to other animals. Some of our past border collie puppies have been bought and trained as service dogs, cattle, horse, sheep dogs, and some have made excellent pets. They are registered with ABCA, American Border Collie Association. When the puppies are sold they will have had been wormed, UTD, and checked by a veterinarian.
